MISSION STATEMENT AND VALUES
Mission
To help all disabled individuals to live life on their own terms through the provision of current, relevant and accurate information and to provide support to realise their self-management potential.
Objectives
- To act as a one-stop signposting shop providing a free, customised, response to every enquiry from all sections of the community.
- To provide contact information for agencies close to the client’s locality where possible.
- To work with suppliers and providers to implement best practice and continuously improve the end to end process of information/advice provision.
- To primarily support those who are disabled in Perth & Kinross while not excluding requests from out with Perthshire.
- To support individuals who are living with a long-term health condition to develop self-management skills.
- To improve individuals’ capacity to take more control of how their condition
Values
The values underlying the above are:
- Respect – to pay full regard to the individuality, integrity, humanity and right to self privacy of all service users.
- Openness – to be honest and truthful in all dealings with individuals; to ensure that all D.I.S.I.P’s processes are transparent; and to allow them full access to information concerning their dealings with D.I.S.I.P.
- Inclusiveness – to avoid discrimination on any grounds; to offer D.I.S.I.P’s services as widely as possible for the benefit of people suffering from disability and impairment; to ensure that all relevant views are represented in the development of the service.
- Disability Rights – a belief that societal structures, both physical and attitudinal, discriminate against those suffering from disability or impairment and that these must be overcome if society can consider itself  “fair”.
- Correctness – All information supplied by DISIP will be as current and accurate as can be verified by the resources open to D.I.S.I.P.
